This tools on this site are different from what we had before, but I’m sure we can replicate and continue the discussions, contributions, news and events that we had before. If you aren’t sure about how to do something, then please get in touch and we’ll see what we can do. At the moment, we have a blog tool and a discussion forum that we can all use, and there may be some more gadgets becoming available that we can make use of. Also, I’m working on integrating this site with Facebook.
Although the site is a little bare at the moment, I’m sure it will soon fill up. Along with the discussions that we had before, I hope we can build up resources for each other based on our research and interests. Storing and sharing material on this site is a little easier than it was before. On this note, I’ll be putting up some data about desertions from the British Army as well as a map (hopefully), that might provide ideas of the sorts of things we can do on this site.
Just to get the posts going, it might useful to say hello to everyone and introduce ourselves again, so it seems only fair that I get us started: I’m interested in all the different types of soldier in eighteenth century Britain, and tend to look more at the social and cultural aspects of the military, particularly its interaction with civilian society. You can see more about what I do at my profile.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this site develops!
