Stephen Wild,Head of Music, ArtForms
A multiple graduate of Leeds University (BA in Music, PGCE and M Mus), Stephen worked as a teacher in Yorkshire for thirty years, mostly for music services in local authorities. Now head of the music service for Leeds, Stephen leads a team offering instrumental, vocal and national curriculum learning to all the schools in Leeds.
Stephen’s teaching experience is diverse: classical, folk and jazz music; teaching brass instruments, accordion, singing, composition; workshop leading; conducting and encouraging performance. His leadership and management experience encompasses managing a wide variety of teams, leading bids for funding and putting together partnerships to address the needs of learners.
As a musician, Stephen plays French horn, folk music on the accordion and is a published composer.
Access to music making for all is a right and not privilege. Encouraging and enabling children and young people to engage with music as performers and listeners has been the core of Stephen’s career in music education.
