History (3rd Year)

The Bicentenary of the end of the Napoleonic and Revolutionary Wars, 2015

Following my work with Dr Kevin Linch, on his project ‘Soldiers and Soldiering in Britain 1750-1815′, I have become extremely interested in the lives and personalities behind those who fought at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. As part of my project I have created a Wikipedia web page concerning the life of a typical 18th century Redcoat soldier, with my research exploring the impact of military uniform upon society, the daily routine of a soldier in a regiment and the promotion of the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo in 2015.

As well as highlighting my role within the Undergraduate Research Scholarship team – incorporating my experience of UGRS and discussing the sheer thrill of becoming a research scholar – I hope to present the research I have so far conducted upon the lives of soldiers. It would be wonderful to see how people react to a topic which – Although its battles and machines have been well debated – has had little scholarship focused upon the stories and people behind the muskets.
