Pots and Personalities: Ancient Cypriot Art in Leeds
Inspired by a Classics module on ancient Greek art, I decided to volunteer at the Leeds City Museum, working on their collections of ceramics from the ancient world. I have become fascinated by the artefacts from ancient Cyprus, dating back thousands of years. These are beautiful and interesting objects of study in their own right, but I have also become intrigued by the stories behind their presence in the Leeds City Museum; how did they make the journey from Cyprus to Leeds? Who are the people behind the pots, and why did they choose to collect them? I would like to present my work so far on answering these questions, and hopefully to share my enthusiasm for the Museum’s collection and the people who brought it to Leeds.
